25 June: Mark Dowd at St Mark's Christian Ecology Group, Wimbledon

St Mark's Church, Wimbledon
St Mark's Place
Wimbledon
London

25th Jun 2008 07:30pm to 09:30pm

Mark Dowd will speak to the Christian Ecology Group at St Mark's Church Wimbledon on "A Christian response to climate change, its theology, & practical actions which I can take" and "Politics of ecological change: Who needs to act, and how can we get that action ?"

George Monbiot, James Garvey & other environmental writers increasingly recognise the contribution of faith-based groups in morally shifting the human behaviour which underlies climate change.  Religious NGOs such as Christian Aid target climate change as an issue of moral justice, because it unfairly affects the planet’s poor & dispossessed. As Operation Noah says: “There is no Planet B”

But as Mark Dowd will describe however, cherishing God’s Creation is not about hair-shirts & self-denial. As the title of Andrew Simms’ & Joe Smith’s latest book implies, “Good Lives do NOT have to cost the Earth”.

St Mark's Church is within 3 minutes walk of Wimbledon Station, in St Mark’s Place, at the bottom of Wimbledon Hill.
