A Prophetic Alternative

Edward P Echlin has just published his new book on climate and the church, Climate and Christ, A Prophetic Alternative (Columbia press, 2010) and it is dedicated to Operation Noah.

With chapters on climate dynamics, evolution, jesus Christ, and a prophetic alternative way of living inspired by Jesus's own lifestyle the book has been described as 'proof of hope' and a 'guide to spiritual transformation in these tempestuous times'. Echlin gives voice to his vision of faith as the means to ecological recovery in the opening chapters:

'Jesus and the church - which is Jesus as community today - along with other faiths, have much in our tradition to help stem the rising tide and restabilise
climate. ... If humanity is to avoid global ecocide, and make the transition
to sustainable ways of living alternative to fossil fuel driven 'growth'
economics, the contribution of all world faiths will be important.'

In his introduction Echlin states, ‘I respectfully dedicate these pages to Operation Noah, the leading Christian climate change campaign, which has done – and will do – so much to illuminate heads and touch hearts with the light of Christ that humanity may avoid climate catastrophe.’
