Operation Noah's 'Carbon Exodus' is inspired by the Exodus story, the journey of Moses and the children of Israel away from the bondage of Egypt. We are embarking on our own journey - away from dependence on fossil fuels and towards the promised land of a Zero Carbon Britain by 2030, and we want you to join us!

The first step on the journey is the 'Oil Fast'. On a chosen day, churches around the country can hold their own 'Oil Fast' services. This is a day for action and reflection, for individual lifestyle changes and spiritual inspiration. 

Recent reports have shown that Ocean acidification (OA) is the quiet tsunami of environmental degradation. Within a few decades, OA may devastate some marine ecosystems and threaten the productivity of our fisheries. When we burn oil, coal, or gas, scientists have recently shown, we are transforming the fundamental chemistry of the oceans, rapidly making the water more acidic.

Furthermore, if we do not slow the rate at which we now burn fossil fuels, average ocean acidity could more than double by the end of century. Scientists predict the Arctic will become corrosive to some shelled organisms within a few decades, and the Antarctic by mid-century. This is pure chemistry; the vagaries of climate do not apply to this forecast.
OA is expected to impact commercial fisheries worldwide, threatening a food source
for hundreds of millions of people. Shellfish will be affected directly, thus impacting finfish who feed on them, and not to mention the effect on our coral reefs.

Operation Noah's 'Oil Fast' is a chance for our supporters to organise a day of action around a church service, a call to Christians all over Britain:

+ Focus our thinking, how is this dependence threatening Creation?

+ Reflect on the consequences

+ Pray for all those who are suffering as a result of oil spills
