Operation Noah's
20 Year Anniversary Service

Join us for an inspiring evening in the wonderfully restored St John’s Waterloo to celebrate 20 years of campaigning for the church to take action on the climate crisis and to look ahead at the challenges that lie before us as we face the growing threat of climate emergency.

The service of thanksgiving and prayer will feature:

  • An address by Dr Rowan Williams (former Archbishop of Canterbury) on ‘The Climate Crisis and the Church: What can we do next?’
  • Readings, prayers and stories of our work
  • Reflection on where we are as a church and an opportunity to take action

About the event

Dr. Rowan Williams was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury and is a Honorary Professor of Contemporary Christian Thought at the University of Cambridge. He is acknowledged internationally as an outstanding theological writer, scholar and teacher and has written extensively across a very wide range of related fields of professional study – philosophy, theology, spirituality and religious aesthetics. Dr. Williams is a passionate advocate on the issue of climate change and has addressed a number of climate campaigns as well as written widely on the subject.

St John’s Waterloo is an inclusive church providing sanctuary, contemplation and spiritual enrichment in a hectic part of central London. St John’s has long been at the forefront of campaigning for climate justice. They are home to the multi-faith action group Faith for the Climate and put sustainability at the heart of everything they do in.

St John’s Waterloo reopened in October 2022 after a major restoration by award-winning architect Eric Parry. This magnificent Grade II* London landmark is now the most exciting heritage venue for the arts, performance, charity meetings and training spaces on the South Bank.
