Dr. Rowan Williams was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury and is a Honorary Professor of Contemporary Christian Thought at the University of Cambridge. He is acknowledged internationally as an outstanding theological writer, scholar and teacher and has written extensively across a very wide range of related fields of professional study – philosophy, theology, spirituality and religious aesthetics. Dr. Williams is a passionate advocate on the issue of climate change and has addressed a number of climate campaigns as well as written widely on the subject.
St John’s Waterloo is an inclusive church providing sanctuary, contemplation and spiritual enrichment in a hectic part of central London. St John’s has long been at the forefront of campaigning for climate justice. They are home to the multi-faith action group Faith for the Climate and put sustainability at the heart of everything they do in.
St John’s Waterloo reopened in October 2022 after a major restoration by award-winning architect Eric Parry. This magnificent Grade II* London landmark is now the most exciting heritage venue for the arts, performance, charity meetings and training spaces on the South Bank.

Take the Bakerloo, Jubilee, Northern, or Waterloo & City lines to Waterloo Station.
Exit the station following signs for South Bank.
St John’s Waterloo is just a short walk from the station. Head southeast on Waterloo Road/A301 and you’ll see the church on your left.
By Bus:
From Central London:
You can take buses 1, 59, 68, 168, or 188 to Waterloo Station/York Road.
Walk south on Waterloo Road, and St John’s Waterloo will be on your left.
From South London:
Buses 77, 176, 507, or 381 also serve the Waterloo area.
Alight at the nearest stop and walk towards Waterloo Road.
By Train:
Waterloo Station:
Many mainline trains from various parts of London and beyond arrive at Waterloo Station.
Follow the directions from Waterloo Station mentioned above.
Walking Directions from Waterloo Station:
Exit the station via the main concourse.
Turn right and walk towards Waterloo Road.
Cross the street at the pedestrian crossing, heading towards Stamford Street.
Turn left onto Waterloo Road.
St John’s Waterloo will be on your left side after a short walk.
