Operation Noah calls on churches to screen Emergency Briefing on climate and nature

24 April 2026

Operation Noah, along with major church denominations and partner organisations, has launched a Call to Action, calling on churches to host community screenings of the People’s Emergency Briefing film.

The 50-minute film, the People’s Emergency Briefing, premiered in April 2026, presents the latest evidence on the climate crisis in an accessible format and features interviews by leading experts with reaction by members of the public and celebrities.

Alongside Operation Noah, the coalition backing the screening of the film represents over 22,000 churches and includes the Church of England, the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales and the Joint Public Issues Team of the Methodist Church, the Baptist Union and the United Reformed Church and charities Tearfund, CAFOD, A Rocha UK, Laudato Si Movement, Green Christian, Christian Climate Action and Eco Congregation Scotland.

The Call to Action is encouraging churches to host screenings and invite their local communities and MPs.

Churches, many of which have a central role in their community, are well placed to unite people in awareness of the scale and threat of the climate and nature crisis and enable communities to discuss the issues raised and explore ways to take action locally

“The Church has historically played a vital role at times of national crisis, providing pastoral care and refuge while challenging the government on issues of justice and morality,” states the newly released call to action. “As Christians our concern is underpinned not just by the threat to our own interests but by core Christian principles of caring for God’s creation, Jesus’ command to love one another and responding to human need”.

There have already been a number of high profile screenings registered at churches and Cathedrals across the country. Operation Noah attended a sold-out briefing at St Pancras Church on Saturday 18 April with TV presenter and activist, Chris Packham. St Alban’s Cathedral, with its 900-seat capacity, hosted its screening on Sunday 19 April, attended by Daisy Cooper MP, the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Supporting the Call to Action, Prof. Mike Berners-Lee, Chair of the National Emergency Briefing, said: “Cross-church support for this initiative is a tremendous step forward – and this is only the beginning of our efforts to create a societal tipping point towards the World War Two-scale action that we need.”

About the National Emergency Briefing

The National Emergency Briefing (NEB) is a UK-wide public information initiative working to ensure that both the public and Parliament are clearly and honestly briefed on the climate and nature crisis. In November 2025, NEB convened more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith and civil society at Westminster Central Hall for a formal, evidence-led emergency briefing delivered by leading UK experts. NEB is now rolling out a 50-minute film version of the briefing to communities across the country, and supporting local screenings that are designed to create a shared understanding of the risks facing the UK, as well as the practical opportunities for response. The initiative is independent and non-party political.

The Call to Action is supported by a coalition including the Church of England, Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, the Joint Public Issues Team for the Methodists, Baptist and United Reformed Church, CAFOD, Tearfund, A Rocha UK, Laudato Si Movement, Operation Noah, Green Christian, Christian Climate Action, and Eco Congregation Scotland.
