Many national governments – including here in the UK – are still approving new coal, oil and gas projects despite the fact that we can’t even burn all the coal, oil and gas from existing developments if we hope to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.
It’s clear that we need a concrete, binding plan to end the expansion of new fossil fuel projects and manage the global transition away from fossil fuels. This is exactly what the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty aims to do – and individuals, charities, churches and other faith institutions are encouraged to join the call for an end to new fossil fuels.
