The Season of Creation is an ecumenical movement supported by the World Council of Churches, Church leaders and environmental theologians, encouraging the world’s 2.2 billion Christians to care for our Common Home and stop fossil fuel expansion.
The season starts on 1st September 2024 with the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends on 4th October 2024, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi; during this time, churches are encouraged to find ways to incorporate caring for creation into their services or ministries and organisers are offering this resource for churches to use.
The resource includes not only a beautiful Order of Service, but also a helpful discussion of the theme, To hope and act with Creation, with suggested activities for churches.
This year’s Season of Creation also asks Christians to support the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty – a global initiative calling on governments to stop fossil fuel expansion in order to limit global heating to 1.5C, as well as to support a just transition to clean energy, supporting communities in the transition. The 21st of September has been marked out as a day to advocate for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
In addition to participating in this year’s Season of Creation and finding ways to advocate for an end to fossil fuel expansion, we would also like to encourage you and your church to sign the petition for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation treaty as well as to sign the faith letter.
